Going full BRIT
Those that have known me for any time will know that I never took on the trappings of the expatriate lifestyle. I avoided management like the plague, never joined clubs or hung out with other foreigners except for the very rare occasion or even rarer friend and I tend to live a local lifestyle.
I am often seen taking my kids to school wearing a sarong and spend my evenings while waiting for my daughter to finish tuition drinking "Teh C kosong" and eating thosai in the local mamak restaurant.
One day recently however, I was driving young Niklaus to collect his sister from school when I had an urge to listen to to Elgar's Enigma Variations. Soon after, Layla got into the back of the car and Niklaus asked me to open the sun roof so he could stand on the seat and poke his head out while Layla was waving out of the window.
We proceeded home with Land of Hope and Glory blazing out at high volume and Me singing along the top of my lungs and it dawned on me that this was my first real BRIT moment in my 44 years in Asia.
