Davinci Space Temporary FAQ
I expect soon we will create a proper FAQ page. For now, let's start with some question that were asked by a kind stranger:

1. Who Are You Sponsored By?
Davinci Space is self-funded, by the two founders. We don't have investors, we don't have sponsors. We don't have advertisers. We do have a few people on paid membership tiers, and we did (and will) make some money by working together with museums and events, helping them to gamify their exhibitions and events. (Olomouc and Colors of Ostrava / Melting Pot are the two to mention so far). I hope we will have much more of those partnerships.
We will never have advertisers. We oppose big tech and the surveillance economy.
2. Why isn't the source code available on the web?
Source Code will be made available before November runs out. I am still deciding which license to use (GPL), and how to make it available so it won't be crawled to death by AI bots. Definitely won't be on github, I oppose all big tech.
It will be likely on https://community.davinci.space , in a library, so community members can download it. This is constantly on my mind, but I don't want to rush it. I'll find a solution in November.
However, if someone wants it now-ish, I can provide the source on demand.
3. Is it an atproto or fedi thing?
Every community is its own unit, on its own server. It can be self-hosted. Davinci Space is not a platform, it's a factory for communities. I want the communities to work on Tor and Swarm as well. (and more, but too early to mention).
Federation features are still being planned. There is demand from museums and schools to have federation between communities, but I want to move carefully with designing that. Feedback is welcomed, please help if you want.
4. What is your AI policy, both as moderators of the existing instance and as developers?
As a moderator / owner of this community: For this and other communities where I have influence, I won't tolerate AI-generated text or art. But since Davinci Space is not a platform but a factory of communities, I don't want to be able to stop others with different values.
My dearest upcoming addition to Davinci Space will be the "campfire protocol", which will provide a reasonable assurance that all other community members are humans and not robots.
I am preparing a set of articles on AI's dangers. I treat AI like it's similar to nuclear power: dark, unknown, inherently dangerous, never a friend, occasionally useful.
As a developer: As a senior developer with decades of experience, I strongly oppose of the using of AI. It robs you of your abilities. It is not a bicycle for your mind, but a wheelchair. Unless treated with extreme care, It causes mental atrophy.
With that said, there was a point after which I decided to let an LLM assist my work. I will expand why in a longer piece. I treat it as I would treat working with a radioactive substance. Keeping my distance, a lot of safeguards. This is my demon core, and I am hoping that my screwdriver will not slip.
I am in the process of publishing a few articles on this topic.
